The Community Outreach Team, Inc. (COT) was conceptualized and established by the late Bishop John L Knight the founder of Heavenly Temple Church Of God In Christ in 1980. Since its inception, has been contributing to the revitalization of Greenville Area section of Jersey City, NJ.
Under the stellar leadership of Rev. Kevin E. Knight, Sr., COT was incorporated as a non-profit 501 (c)3 and has encouraged a comprehensive strategy of neighborhood emergence through coordination of services and programs that nurture social and educational pursuits for the entire family.
COT envisions parts of Greenville and Lafayette neighborhoods of Jersey City, to be communities impacted by its social service programs affordable housing and educational opportunities that create a foundation for familv and economic emDowerment.
Our Value
A major pillar of our guiding philosophy is not to merely give out welfare packages; but to empower individuals for sustainable success. This explains our heavy emphasis on life skills training and development. In pursuit of this ideal we have successfully partnered with other service providers in the community, to reach wider audiences and provide superior services that we otherwise could not do on our own.
Our Mission
COT’s endeavor and mission is to improve the quality of life and increase life chances of the underserved in the community. COT believes that there is strength and power in a family that is empowered! Furthering underpinning all of this is the notion that, every great nation and every strong community are directly related to the greatness of their families. We believe that we must focus attention to the future of our people by providing services needed to accomplish our mission of strengthening our community through fortifying and empowering families.
We have served the community through five major program offerings:
Computer training
Job training and placement
ABS/GED preparatory classes
Affordable housing
Through these avenues we have already provided services to approximately 4000 individual and households.
